September 6th, 2007Apple (re) invents the PDA!
With the arrival of the ipod Touch, Apple seems to re-invent the PDA (remember?, the big thing you carried along with your phone).
It may be named ipod but has in fact more to do with a complete PDA with great AV functionalities. Do I like it? Certainly but personnally I can’t be carrying a phone + such kind of device, too heavy, too many cables.
Second point I wanted to address is how pissed of I’m with the price differences between europe & US. Even if the Euro is more than 30% more expensive than the Dollar, they still price their devices at higher prices in absolute! The differences reach 40% in some cases. That’s insane.
What do you think?

In great fairness Florent, and to compare apples to apples you should here use the “HT” euro price in your calculations since in the U.S. prices are indicated before tax … In case of the 4GB nano the max price difference will then drop from over 40% to a mere
22% reducing the insanity a bit. From there it will still be legit to ask yourself how Apple could justify this kind markup in a country where the fruit company is still not operating one of the branded brick & mortar store - Cheers.

Yep, you’re right. But to be completely accurate, we should also measure the VAT rates differences between the different American states that vary from from 8.5% to 16.7% as can be seen here.
BTW, is this you Laurent?

Can’t blame Steve Jobs for us having a 19.7% VAT!

I’m not sure but you also have to take into consideration the license fee for private copy (just applies in France).

I’m quite happy to be in Canada in that regards; electronics is much cheaper in general.
